Design Thinking: users imagine solutions by expressing and prioritizing their problems

How should data analysis and processing modules evolve to facilitate the use and performance of users? How should usage be considered when updating a module? We tested design thinking for an afternoon: a new and very enriching experience!

At the beginning, we were thinking about setting up a roadmap of the new features we wanted to propose for the next updates of our modules used by both the Design and Methods Office and the Market. With more than sixty modules, it is important to choose them well in order to best meet the needs and expectations that we have gathered during our discussions with our clients. We then understood that we were going to update according to what we understood of the issues and expectations, and also according to what we wanted to do (and had the time) to do. For 2019, we committed to do more: to imagine, without constraint, with users, the best possible solutions.

So, we wanted to test a creative dynamic. On June 26, 2019, the first Camtek Design Thinking workshop took place, led by two UX Designers (Marine Piedoue and Olivier Beining), with a panel of users of Camtek solutions. We tried to consider the very busy period of June in the transportation sector and the workshop took place in a short time. We wanted to move forward quickly on our side to take advantage of the summer period, which is favourable to the studious development phases.

The workshop was very fast paced, with many short sequences, alternating playful moments (to free expression, imagination, empathy, exchange, collaborative intelligence) and stages of creation and design of software solutions. Result: the objectives, functionalities, and solutions to be mobilized to take into consideration the identified pain points of the users, the implications, and the interactions with their environments (upstream and downstream) were displayed on the wall of the room. A rich work that allowed us to better understand what we have to do, why, what makes us different, how all the benefits of Camtek solutions can be mobilized.

The Design Thinking workshop has set out the lines of action. Thank you very much to the participants, and we hope that they can be the first beneficiaries of these new features. From September 2019, Camtek solutions will be able to integrate new ergonomic features, with more accessible treatments, and even simpler and easier uses.

This approach meets our ambition: to offer our customers simple, useful, secure, efficient modules, with time savings, a requirement for quality and confidence, a return on investment identified and a high added value.
