Voice control, the future of data input

Registering data, comments or reports is becoming easier and can be done directly on a smartphone. The use of vocal command is a time saver, with the possibility of processing data directly in the Information Systems.

By the end of 2020, around 20% of the online search will be done without a screen. With the development and the ease of use of personal assistants in our homes (and now in our workspaces), our behaviours totally changed.

Voice command is becoming part of our habits and in a very fast way, for a simple practical reason: we can say around 150 words in one minute, but only type 40 words. Learning is easier than our keyboards and mice, office software... Performance is also one of the reasons for this take-off: voice input is faster, the problem of spelling, the principles of layout and sending modes are formatted to be directly exploitable in Information Systems.

The implementation is facilitated by the lightness of the necessary device: a single smartphone is sufficient. If the application allows for rapid data entry, directly at the place of practice, it is likely that deployment will be facilitated. In terms of data management and processing, the smartphone allows data entry interfaces with filters and multiple choices, for rapid statistical processing (even in real time)! And this deployment is possible thanks to the availability of proven open-source solutions (notably by Google).

As is often the case with new solutions, there is a set-up time. The difference, however, is that the time required is more on the side of the formalization of the interfaces (with ergonomics and design that are often very attractive), than on the side of the users, for whom this new way of entering data will be adopted as soon as they enter it by voice.
