All the interfaces (upstream and downstream) of the company are producing data on a daily basis. The analysis of those data allows a better understanding or to determine leverage actions or even provide a predictive analysis. However, the first step is to clearly identify all the sources of data’s production and to include them in a comparative analysis format. The knowledge of the data environment (context, interface, frequency, validity…) is used to enhance the value of the data (for the company’s activity and the provision -open data and web services). This brings another question that is, to what extent should be provided the data produced, for what purposes and what use?

The audit of data production sources, their qualification, their accessibility, will improve the use of data between the company's departments, the first source of performance. The ease of consultation, representation and processing, and the definition of uses, will enable the design of dedicated interfaces, the second source of performance. Finally, data production management will optimize storage modes and the calling of only useful data, the third source of performance, through data intelligence.

Some solutions (the Cloud) have been developed to create data collections. They are relevant for centralization purposes (a managed space, with a simplified access). These solutions enhance data consultation functionalities. It remains also very important to focus on the uses of the data and evaluate the data necessary for the performance of the activity (the vision), which are intern datas to explore and external sources to exploit. The goal here is to conceive properly one’s own data model, to support the strategy.
